It was definitely still electro, but with Jason Faries banging drums, Ronald Gierhart lightly shredding, and key-mistress Leanne Macomber, the sound had more snap, crackle and pop.

With reverb and rhythm, sliding faders and punching buttons, Neon Indian kept the house jiving to zapping lasers, trilling tweets, and Zelda’s sword. “Should Have Taken Acid With You” started with tones from a traditional Japanese alarm clock (whatever the hell that means) and continued into a peppier, synthed-out remix reminiscent of new wave giants like New Order.

For all the additions, simplicity still reigned with monotonous (yet not boring) drums and a guitar-heavy “Deadbeat Summer” that commenced behind a wall of Flaming Lips-like distortion.

And as the grand finale, they launched into an all out rock session of “Ephemeral Artery” that was so kick ass that I lost all my bearings, falling into a fit of vertigo as thick as Lucille Two’s.

Portland’s Guidance Counselor brought spacey, dance rock that got loud enough to bust an amp. After many technical difficulties, they managed to string together a set that at times rocked too heavy for me five fingers shoes , but a gaggle of dance masters up front can’t be all wrong.
